So today we begin the mold. I have bought 3kg of Polycraft's S-10 RTV Mold Making Silicone Rubber kit which includes the catalyst. This cost around £70 including delivery. It did not however come with the thickening agent Thixotropic which I had to purchase separately for another £30. Casting is not cheap!! That's just the tip of the iceberg price wise so bare that in mind folks!
The ratio of mix is 2 (silicone) to 1 (catalyst) but PLEASE read the instructions carefully for any product you buy.
The first layer is dripped on on a thin layer to capture the detail. It can be painted onto the hard to reach areas with a very soft paintbrush.
At the end of day one of the mold making process we then leave the first layer of silicone to dry over night.
